Tully: Friendly, charasmatic, entertaining.
Performing professionally since 2004, Tully has wowed audiences throughout Australia and internationally with his favourite acts of meteors, bottle juggling and cube manipulation, among others. Most recently appearing as a resident performer with Australian family favourite Circus Joseph Ashton, he has also performed for a large variety of audiences at festivals, corporate events and private functions, on cruise ships and other great locations.
Life in circus started for Tully in 1990 at the young age of 8 when he began training with Flying Fruit Fly Circus (FFFC) in the Community Intake Kids Scheme (CIKS). He started developing skills including tight-wire, juggling, handstands, cord de lisse (aerial rope), static trapeze, tumbling and flexibility. After 2 years in CIKS, he increased his training, specialising in juggling and rola-bola.
“I remember when I started circus, I was so excited – everyone was so into it, both the trainers and students. It was an incredible experience in every lesson, the energy brought us together as a group.”
Having been accepted in 1994 into FFFC after training in CIKS, Tully starting performing his specialties with the circus in 1996. During the 1999 – 2000 Christmas & New Years period, he had the privilege of performing “The Gift” with FFFC on Broadway in New York for 6 weeks, and later that year, Tully performed at the Sydney Olympic Arts Festival for the 2000 Olympic Games. The following year he was accepted into the National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA), at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia. Tully specialised in manipulation and ground acts, graduating from NICA with a Bachelor of Circus Arts in 2003.
“I loved every day; the trainers, the intensity, learning from the best, creating and collaborating with fellow students who shared the same passion as me. If I could, I would go back and do it all over again.”
Since graduation, Tully has worked with P&O Cruises in 2008, returning on request during 2009, travelling locations such as Isle of Pines, Samoa, Hawaii and New Zealand. In 2010 he was invited to be a resident performer with Circus Joseph Ashton (CJA), after having starred with CJA as a guest act starting from 2004.
“My cube act came into existence thanks to the Ashtons’ involvement in my training – I really matured as a performer. Their family is so welcoming and accepting, they made me feel like I was one of them from day one.”
Starting late 2011, Tully has returned to performing at festivals, corporate events and private functions. He performed at the Melbourne Circus Festival on invitation, celebrating the 10th year birthday for NICA. Starting 2012, Tully is involved with the prestigious Fringe World Festival in Perth, performing alongside some of the countries finest circus artists.
Tully is currently performing based in Perth, Western Australia. Further updates on performances can be found on his personal blog. For further information or performance requests, please see the contact information page.
